On Friday 13th February, the Lounge club in Melbourne launches a new techno night appropriately called ‘Slap’ where they promise to give locals (and Awdio listeners) a good slapping with some stomping 4/4 beats. Organizer and resident DJ, Nadine invites Melbourne’s best DJs (Emily Clarke, Sam Fraser, Sam Mc Ewin, Uone, Dave Pham and Danni B on rotation) to spin the tastiest techno. Whether it’s minimal, Detroit or UK Techno that you’re into, they’ll make sure everyone is satisfied.

Third Class closes forever

third class

We’re sorry to announce that Third Class, Melbourne will be closed for ever as from January Ist with their last party being held on New Year’s Eve. They’ve established themselves as a haven for the nu-rave generation with the manifesto of not being just a club but a lifestyle choice! Here at Awdio we’ve been enjoying the bass-heavy, full on sounds mixed by their resident DJs Megawuoti, Jean-Pierre and Cheapdate broadcast live from the venue every weekend. The good news is that although Third Class is physically closing, the concept will be transferred to a new home, so watch this space and enjoy the final parties from this social sanctuary of weekend madness.

130 years of live music at Melbourne’s Esplanade Hotel

the espy

‘The Espy’ in St Kilda has been Australia’s premier live music venue since the late 1800’s and was a little worse for wear when it was bought up by nightclub owners Paul Adamo and Vince Sofo in 2001. They gave the place a new lease of life adding a restaurant and different floors all featuring live music. The impressive Gershwin room upstairs hosts main acts and the Front Room (Live on Awdio) has become the place to discover live local talent. Sunday night’s celebrations feature the Sunday residents Headspace, Nudist Funk Orchestra and Bad Boys Batucada. More details on: http://theesplanadehotel.com.au/

Inventing sounds at Bar Open’s Make it up club

Monday, November 17th, 2008

make it up club

Every Tuesday night Bar Open in Melbourne invites musicians to come and improvise experimental sounds. Founded by percussionist Will Guthrie and guitarist Ren Walters in 1998, ‘MIUC’ has become the longest running program of its type in Australia. It has helped to cultivate a vibrant and diverse scene for avant-garde improvisation, challenging boundaries of current musical trends while remaining open to all genres idioms and instrumentation. Listen in and keep and ‘Open’ mind.
