Last week, Awdio had an amazing night out at the Wide Style party at the Bellevilloise organized by La Rafinerie featuring Gilles Peterson and some of his DJ friends from round the world. Hundreds of people turned up to see the BBC1 DJ legend in action and we can assure you they weren’t disappointed. Starting with the first act : DJ Toshio Matsuura from UFO mixing a blend of reggae, jazz, soul, house and all sorts of unusual sounds. Watch the videos

Brownswood Wild Style

La Bellevilloise couldn’t have enough with just one Brownswood Recording night, so they brought us another one! And this time it’s going to be huge! Reunited on the same stage are Gilles Peterson, Jazza nova, Eddy Meets Yannah, Shuya Okino de Kyoto Jazz Massive, Toshio Matsura de Ufo, and Jazzamar! Try to say all that 10 times fast, and you’ll probably catch a tongue cramp! Even harder is pin pointing the style of the evening… neither just jazz nor soul, nor funk, house, broken, rare groove, hip hop nor electro: it’s all of the above! Death by Jazz: Soil & Pimp are back

Who said there’s never any jazz on Awdio? The 8th of July at La Bellevilloise is an event based around jazz and soul, focusing on Giles Peterson’s label Brownswood Recordings. The performances are American crooner Jose James in quartet, and the Japanese phenomenon, Soil & Pimp Sessions. When we say crooner about Jose James, we mean it: suave, sensual, and sexy. Read more

Favela Chic at the beach

Favela Chic has just announced that they will be participating in the Beachdown Festival (28th-31st August) held at Devils Dike in the South Downs (just north of Brighton, UK) this year. The Favela resident DJs, Gringo da Parada and Ross Clarke will be joined by Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova and Norman Jay.

A new season of the Brownswood Records night is back at London’s Bar Rumba on Monday nights. Directed by Gilles Peterson, he invites the more underground and leftfield artists that inspire him to join resident spin-doctors The bpm, Ross Allen and Beccy Grierson. Tonight (Mon 9th Feb) the special guest is Toshio Matsuura from the Tokyo outfit UFO, next week (16th Feb) it’s Bullion and on the 23rd the guest of honor is Charlie Dark.
