This new event called Giant Step for French Hip Hop, based on the New York style of nights where they showcase artists and put an emphasis on free-style will be taking over the Paris venue Batofar tonight (Wed 10th June). This premiere invites hip-hop heavy weight LaPropagand, a rising female star from the outskirts of Paris, Dmô and new talent Laudy who combines both English and French lyrics. Sophie Hunger was not born craving for music, far from it actually. The 26-year-old diplomat’s daughter only started taking a real interest in music at 19 and wrote her first song at 23. By then, she’d already led an artistic life hoping from London to Bonn to Zurich, which undoubtedly influenced her sound. Her unusual voice declines itself in various languages, mainly English, but also German and French. The result is good old Folk music that sounds like Tori Amos and Cat Power according to critics. The funky couple, Masomenos, is a production partnership between Joan Costes, a graphic designer and DJ, and Adrien de Maublanc, a producer and sound engineer. As well as producing music they have also created a graphic world of imaginary animals that are printed on all sorts of apparel and sold in their Paris shop ‘Masomenos’
They are at the Rex Club, Paris and on Awdio.com tonight (Thurs 4th June, 00h local time) performing both a live and DJ set with other local talent Pepperpot, Chris Carrier and Kreon who collaborated on their latest tracks.

The Doll and the Kicks quartet is invading Dogstar this Friday (29th May) for what is going to be a manic after-show party. The Brighton-based band is currently supporting Morrisey during his world tour and is starting to create a buzz.
