Within the gallery, he is the youngest, but his lack in age does not rhyme with lack of experience. He has experimented, since he was 13 years old, with different elements and different methods to produce a whole new street art. It’s not just graffiti, nor is it vandalism. He takes old advertisement posters to make of them new, inspired pieces. His newest experiment is mixing Quink ink and household bleach. Who knows what’s next? Vhils’ art is about going further than the limits, being ambitious, yet staying poetic.
Today, Vhils is on the verge of his 20’s, and more than ever believes in his projects of street art, graffiti, and graphic design. The streets of Lisbon are an inspiration, covered in graffiti bombing, and perfect for his project: Scratching the Surfaces. Bar Rumba participates in his exhibition, exposing his works as Djs mix and play urban music. It’s the ‘Lisbon Militia’ with guests Riot (of Buraka Som Sistema, Dj Ride, and Dj Glue. The night’s recurrent theme seems to be innovation and passion, as the artists share either through visuals or through music. Tune in to Awdio.com to listen on the 3rd of July.
